Grass of Parnassus

A photographic collection and brief reference to help identify
Wildflowers - Mushrooms - Lichens & Moss ...found in New York

Grass of Parnassus
- Parnassia glauca

Saxifrage Family
AKA: Broad Leaved Goldenrod

The common name is a bit of a misnomer. The plant doesn't look like grass at all. Leaves are spade shaped and lay close to the ground. A smaller single leaf clasps the flower stem.

Not rare but I've found it uncommon and only located in two places, both in partial shade.

Found: Wet meadows, limestone seeps
Height: 8 - 24 inch
July - Oct bloom time

Grass of Parnassus

The flower petals have dropped off and the seed pod is maturing
