AKA: Touch-Me-Not The name is derived from the ripe seed pods that burst when touched. Carefully pick a ripe pod by the stem, then ask someone to hold it for you.
I can attest that the juice from crushed stems greatly helps relieve the itching from Poison Ivy. It may just be a placebo effect but I use it on bug bites too with great effect.
Spotted Jewelweed is seen throughout the state.
The yellow, Pale Jewelweed seems to be a mid state plant. I haven't seen it from the mid Adirondack Park north. The most impressive stands I've seen have been in Shaker country along the border of Mass.
Found: Wet shady areas, shorelines, - with plenty of moisture they tolerate fairly sunny spots.
